Who Is This For
These sessions are designed for students and professionals who want to make thoughtful career decisions within private capital.
You may be:
- Exploring the industry and deciding which area suits your interests and strengths.
- Preparing to move into private capital from another field.
- Considering a change of role, market or career direction.
- Looking for an experienced perspective on a specific career decision.
You do not need to have everything figured out. A willingness to prepare, reflect and take action is a good place to start.
What Can We Discuss
Each session centres on the questions that matter most to you. Topics may include:
- Understanding different roles within private equity, private credit and venture capital.
- Assessing how your experience and strengths fit your career ambitions.
- Identifying skills and experience to develop.
- Exploring career opportunities across different markets.
- Building professional relationships with purpose.
- Evaluating a career move and its longer-term implications.
The aim is to help you see your options more clearly and leave with practical steps you can take.
Why I Do This
The private capital industry has given me much more than a career. It has broadened my perspective, brought remarkable people into my life and given me opportunities to learn and grow across cultures.
Along the way, I have come to appreciate how valuable an honest conversation with an experienced person can be, particularly when you are entering an unfamiliar field or facing an important decision. Sometimes, a different perspective helps you recognise an opportunity. Sometimes, it helps you ask a better question.
Offering pro bono mentoring is my way of sharing what I’ve learned and supporting others as they find their own path in the industry. I enjoy helping people discover where their strengths can contribute and make decisions that reflect their own ambitions.
Since 2008, I have mentored more than 50 students and professionals, and I remain connected with many of them. Seeing them develop their own paths has been one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

Diverse Paths & a Shared Ambition
Over the years, I’ve mentored students and graduates from a range of universities and business schools, including those shown below.
Mentoring is offered in a personal capacity. The institutions shown represent mentees' educational backgrounds and do not imply institutional affiliation or endorsement.
How It Works
-
Choose a session
Book an available appointment and answer a few short questions about your background, goals and what you would like to discuss.
-
Come prepared
Reflect on your career direction, do some initial research and bring two or three questions. Identify the one you most want us to focus on.
-
Explore your next steps
We will discuss your situation, examine your options and identify practical actions. Before we finish, you will summarise the steps you intend to take.
-
Put the conversation into practice
Take time to act on what we discussed. Follow-up appointments are available for previous mentees, subject to availability, to review progress and explore new questions.
Preparing for Your Session
A little preparation makes our time together more useful. Before we meet:
- Be ready to briefly explain your background and current situation.
- Think about what you want to achieve, even if your direction is still taking shape.
- Research the areas of private capital that interest you.
- Prepare two or three specific questions and prioritise the most important one.
- Consider what you have already tried and where you need a fresh perspective.
If you are unsure about your direction, that is welcome too. Bring the options you are considering and what makes the decision difficult.
There is no need to prepare a presentation or submit a CV.
About Me
I have spent nearly two decades working across private credit, private equity and cross-border capital, through different institutions, markets and economic cycles.
My career has taken me across continents. My experience spans European and Turkish private equity, restructuring and special situations. Over the past decade, my focus has been on private credit transactions across Europe, Turkiye, North Africa and the GCC.
Working across these markets has given me a broad perspective on how investment careers develop, how teams operate and how professional opportunities differ across geographies.
Today, I am building an independent private credit platform while continuing to share my experience through mentoring. My approach is straightforward: listen carefully, ask useful questions and offer candid, practical feedback.
What Mentees Say
“I had a highly insightful discussion with Erdem. Erdem was able to draw from years of experience to share tailored feedback regarding a career in private equity”
“Erdem has a deep understanding of how to struct a career path depending on personal skills and desires. His advice was really helpful and beyond that, he helps me to find other connections which can enhance the knowledge of new grads like me about different careers.”
“Erdem is a true professional. He is very knowledgeable, and extremely generous in sharing his insights and expertise in Private Equity. He has an engaging and approachable style, and takes a genuine interest in your professional development. I have benefited tremendously from my consultations with him and now have a much better understanding of how to pursue my career goals…”
“Over more than four years of mentoring, Erdem helped me see how my experience across sales, operations and investing could come together in a corporate finance career. Our conversations were practical and honest, particularly when it came to navigating relationships and taking on greater responsibility within an organisation. As I progressed into a general manager role, I valued having someone who understood both my ambitions and the challenges along the way.”
“Building a career in London after graduating during Covid was much harder than I had expected. There were times when staying focused on investment banking felt unrealistic, especially when other paths seemed more accessible. Erdem was a steady source of perspective and encouragement over the years. He helped me make my own decisions and stay committed to what I wanted. Today, I work in technology investment banking in London, doing work I genuinely enjoy.”
“I wanted to move beyond advising businesses and find a way to acquire and run one myself. Erdem was someone I could test that ambition with seriously. Over many conversations, we challenged assumptions, explored different routes and discussed what making the transition would actually involve. I eventually launched my own search fund in the US, and I still value the conversations we have today.”
“Erdem supported me through the long transition from valuation advisory to an investment role on the buy side. Sometimes that meant detailed preparation for an application or interview; at other times, it was a candid conversation that helped me regain perspective after a setback. He understood where I wanted to go and helped me keep working towards it. I’m now an investment manager in the energy sector in the US, and I look back on his support with real appreciation.”
“My interest in moving from management consulting into private capital initially covered several possible directions. Erdem has helped me look more closely at what each would mean in practice and where my experience could be most relevant. Our discussions are helping me turn a broad ambition into more deliberate steps towards investment management. I appreciate his willingness to challenge my thinking while leaving room for me to reach my own conclusions.”
“I worked with Erdem for several years, starting as an analyst, so his career guidance came from knowing my work and seeing how I developed. He encouraged me to take on more responsibility and helped me think carefully about my next move. That perspective was valuable when I moved into an investment manager role at a major family office in the Gulf. His mentorship has stayed with me well beyond our time working together.”
